Leadership Series: Excellence

EXCELLENCE – Pursue Surpassing Ordinary Standards

Daniel 5:14 I have heard that the spirit of the gods is in you and that you have insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom.

Daniel 6:3 Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.

Operating in the Spirit of excellence isn’t measured by man. Operating in the Spirit of excellence is measured by God.  God is the author and finisher of your faith. You need faith and a fervent prayer life to operate in the spirit of excellence. Your faith and prayer life will take you where God is leading you.

1. Operating in excellence requires doing/giving more than what is required; you must give your all in order to surpass ordinary standards. The spirit of God is not inadequate or mediocre. Just as in the scripture above, Daniel 5:14, God will give you insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom when you allow Him to guide you. Although God requires you to give more than the ordinary standard, His grace will put His super on your natural and cause supernatural things to manifest. God will add extra to your ordinary and make it extraordinary.

2. Operating in excellence means you do not quit when you have a God given task, regardless of how tough it gets. Obstacles and opposition will come.  Just because God called and anointed you to do a task doesn’t mean it will come easy.  Stay persistent and prayerful and allow God to direct you. You will overcome all of the fiery darts of the enemy and God’s work will be done.

3. Operating in excellence means your focus is on God; not what you see, nor yourself. In order to operate in the spirit of excellence you have to allow God to be the author and the finisher of your faith. You have to stay focused on God.  If you don’t make God the head and allow Him to take complete control you will operate out of your flesh.  No flesh can glory in God’s presence.  Allow God to get the glory in everything you do.

4. Operating in excellence means it can be done because I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. When you operate in excellence you are operating in the Spirit of God.  God is Alpha and Omega and everything in between.  He is all-knowing and all powerful.  Don’t let fear, doubt and intimidation stop you from doing what God has called you to do.  Don’t doubt the God in you.  Believe God to use you in whatever capacity He sees fit.  Your assignment may be bigger than you think you can handle, but God assigned it to you because He knows what He has invested in you.  Let’s take a look at David and Goliath. 1 Samuel 17 lets us know Goliath was a well-known champion and a giant.  Many feared him, but David, a little shepherd’s boy, did not allow Goliath’s size and his track record to intimidate the God in him. David went up against Goliath in the name of the Lord with five smooth stones.  With the help of God, David defeated Goliath and he didn’t have to use all five of his stones.  Remember when things get tough and everything doesn’t go as you planned, God is in control and you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
