Leadership Series: Culture

Live Your Life According to God’s Standards

Culture - that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, art, morals, law, custom and many other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.

It has been stated by society that we are a product of our environment.  There are several factors such as; family, friends, communities and lifestyle that contributes to our sense of who we are and how we view the world.

This is just an example: Our culture and belief system can stop us from achieving all that God has for us.  Once we are adopted into his family, it is God's will that we live a lifestyle of holiness and separation from the world.

II Cor 6:17, "Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you."

I remember when I was a child, my grandmother would always talk about God and how we're supposed to live a life pleasing unto Him.  She taught us that God is Holy and if we wanted to go to heaven, we had to obey His commandments and live a righteous lifestyle according to the word of God.  I didn't understand exactly what she meant at that particular time.

Once I became a young adult and began to establish a relationship with God, I realized how important it is to live a life free from sin.  I could hear my grandmother’s voice echoing in my ear "God is a Holy God".  Romans 6:12 says, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.”

Now, fast forward. We are living in a more tolerable generation, whereas, people are being taught that it's okay to live a compromising lifestyle and still go to heaven. For instance, you can smoke, drink, fornicate, lie, steal, and shack-up because God knows your heart. The bible lets us know in Romans 12:1, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."

God will not compromise nor alter his word to accommodate mankind to live as he or she pleases. There is no in between when it comes to God's standards of living holy.  The bible also lets us know in I Peter 1:16, “Because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy.”

We are living in an era where people are more prone to having itching ears. In other words, they're more acceptable to hear lies rather than the truth. They began to worship other gods more so than worshiping the only Wise, True and Living God.

That's why it is imperative that we are rooted and grounded in the word of God, because if not, you can be persuaded to believe in a god that's not real. Ephesians 4:5, One Lord, one faith, one baptism.

God has so much to offer us when we choose to live a Holy lifestyle, believe in God and value His word. That which you treasure or value the most is where your heart is.  God promised us a land flowing with milk and honey, but we must be obedient to God’s word. Isaiah 1:19 tells us, “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.”

Once you've come into the knowledge of who Jesus Christ is and what He means to you, it would be impossible for someone to persuade you into believing in another god.  John 7:38 tells us, “He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow the rivers of living waters.”

You need to ask yourself, "What is it that I value the most?" If your response is Jesus then you are a winner!
