Leadership Series: Creativity

Simple definition: God given ability to make new things or think of new ideas!

God has endowed each and every one of us with many talents and gifts.  We all have creative thoughts that teaches us new ways and ideas during our lifetime. When we recognize the power in believing in ourselves and our God-given potential, we will unleash the creativity that lies deep within us.  If you have tried once, twice or three times, don’t stop trying, dreaming and entertaining your creativity.  Use the creative inspiration God has given you.  Use the talents in your hands you already have.  It may not come as easy as you have hoped and you may not be an overnight success, but God has perfect timing; so endure every obstacle that is before you.

During one point in my life I had to endure hardship. I felt totally helpless and hopeless. I saw no way to support my children, nor to provide them with a good quality of life. All avenues were closed. All resources had been exhausted.  This situation was perfect for God to show himself strong in my life.  Through this experience I learned life does not always deal you a favorable hand; however, I have also learned not to let life’s circumstances keep me down and never stay discouraged. Can anyone identify with that downtime in your life?  We have all experienced it at one point in time! Even if you feel as though you have come to the end of your rope, hang in there, help is on the way.

During one of the lowest points in my life I had totally given-up. I didn’t know what to do, so I took a walk to clear my head. I needed the fresh air and openness. With no obstructions, enclosed walls or doors to stop my creative thoughts. I had to be in a place where I could hear from God. It was amazing, once I was under the open sky, I could hear clearly from God. While walking, I ended up at a grocery store. I was in the checkout line with tears in my eyes, feeling hopeless. As I was facing the magazine rack, I saw a book title that mesmerized me, “All You Can Do is All You Can Do, But All You Can Do Is Enough,” by A. L. Williams. I was instantly captured by the title of the book because that is exactly how I felt, "Lord, I’ve done all I could do." I said yes Lord, I have done all I know to do, but the part of the title that resonated with my spirit was "All I Can Do Is Enough." My strength was instantly renewed.

Although, I had a creative process, plan A did not work!  Plan B did not work either! God rejuvenated my spirit and I had hope again. I thank God for insurance mogul A. L. Williams. His wonderful book title helped others, such as myself, to never give-up.

In reading the book I learned that many famous people, as we know them to be famous now, were not always that way.  They are winners that overcame many obstacles of defeat.

One of the greatest persons we know in history was the biggest failure I have ever read about! In 1831 he had a failed business; In 1832 he was defeated in the Legislature Branch; In 1833 he had a second failed business; In 1836 he suffered a nervous breakdown; In 1938 he was defeated as Speaker of the House; In 1840 he was defeated for Elector; In 1843 he was defeated when he ran for Congress; In 1848 he was defeated again when he ran for Congress; In 1855 he was defeated when he ran for Senator; In year 1856 he was defeated when he ran for vice president; In 1858 he was defeated a 2nd time when he ran for Senator. Finally, after not giving up, he was ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES in 1860. You may wonder, who is this person that failed so many years? SURPRISE! It is President Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln has gone down in history as one of our brightest presidents thus far.

If you failed time after time and you are feeling hopeless, let God build your creativity again.  There are others who succeeded when the odds were against them. They are:  George Kinney (Kinney Shoes), Gail Borden (Borden’s Milk & Ice Cream), Thomas Alva Edison (Inventor: light bulbs, phonograph player, motion picture), Estee Lauder (Estee Lauder Cosmetics), William Hewlett and David Packard ( Hewlett-Packard information System), Burton Baskin (Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream), Robert, Edward, and James Johnson (Johnson & Johnson Health Products), Dick Clark (American Bandstand), Dr. ChristianBarnard (First Successful Human Heart Transplant).  Their naysayers said they would never make it, but they endured the negative feedback. They're just ordinary people that followed that little small voice down on the inside which caused them to create extraordinary things. God has greatness in all of us, but the ones who will avail themselves to him and follow his leading will create great and amazing things.

Do you know what you are passionate about? It may just be what presses you on to greatness. If you have become discouraged – start dreaming again. It may not have worked before, but get-up and try it again.

Become a trailblazer and create your path in this life.  Create something new that no one else has done.  It’s your time to be famous with the leading of the Lord. Inch by inch you will recognize your God given creativity to reach your goal.

It’s not because of your education or your talents that will lead you to success. It will come from you trusting and obeying the leading of the Lord. Do what you can do and the Lord will take care of the rest.
