The Bully

When I was in the 2nd grade I hated going to school. I knew once I arrived, I would have to face the classroom bully.  Angie would pull my hair and kick my desk every day.  Besides the everyday bullying the threats would come, “I’m going to get my brothers to beat you up; or she would say I’m going to get my brother’s brass-knuckles and I’m going to black your eye.”  I was scared out of my wits end and I didn’t know if she had a brother.  The bullying got so bad Angie brought an acorn to school and pierced it in my skin. I cringed in my desk as tears rolled down my face.

One day I was at my breaking point. It was home time. I managed to get to the line first, Rebecca was in line behind me and she asked me if she could jump me, I said, “No.”  The threats and the name calling began. I ignored her, although I was terrified she would follow through with her threats.  As soon as we stepped foot on the schoolyard I felt a push, without looking to see who pushed me, I turned around and swung my metal lunchbox. The metal lunchbox cut, Rebecca on her forehead.  I thought I was going to get in trouble when I got home, so I was hesitant to tell my parents what happened. Once I got up enough nerves to tell my parents my father said, “If someone else messes with you bust them upside the head too.” After that day I had no more problems with Angie, Rebecca or anyone else.

The enemy is a big bully, he prowls around as a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. The devil loves to torment us with sickness, lack, fear, deception, depression, distractions, lies, false accusations, hopelessness, oppression, rejection, and death threats.  It’s time to rise up and take our rightful place in Christ.  Just as I used my lunchbox as a weapon against Rebecca we have to use the Word of God as our weapon against the enemy.  It’s time to put the devil under our feet and bruise his head with the Word of God.  God’s word is our sure foundation.  It will stand the test of times and bring us out of whatever we are going through. God’s word is quick, powerful and sharper than any two edge sword.  It is life changing.  The word of God tells us: By His stripes we are healed.  We are the head and not the tail.  Nothing is too hard for our God.  Whatever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them.  If you lack wisdom, ask God and He will freely give you wisdom.  God has given us power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt us. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

The devil uses the same ole tactics to keep us in bondage, so we cannot live the abundant life God has promised us. It’s time to call the devil exactly what he is….a defeated foe.
