Have you ever seen a person staggering about and you wondered? "Are you drunk?"
I was driving on the interstate today with my daughter and noticed that it seemed as if everyone was in an all-fired hurry to get where they were going. It felt like people were in a drag race and everyone knew they were racing except me. I didn't really care that people were passing me while I was doing the speed limit. 60mph! I was certain of my speed because I looked down to make sure I wasn't dawdling in traffic. Besides, I had plenty of time to get where I was going. Suddenly, a sense of alertness came over me and my eyes began tracking this one particular vehicle. Something about it just seemed to give me cause for concern.
As we all approached the exit to get onto another major highway a small car suddenly crossed in front of us across 2 lanes to take the exit. So last minute they almost missed the exit. We were in the fast lane to continue on the highway we were on and that car nearly hit the truck that I had misgivings about. The truck swerved to avoid being hit by the car and lost control. They spun around, in front of us, across 2 lanes of traffic moving at over 60mph and I shouted "The blood of Jesus" and the truck didn't hit us but came to rest tightly fit into the shoulder of the highway between the white line and the guardrail. The entire time the truck was spinning in front of us I felt calm and in control of my car and speed. I KNOW THAT WAS GOD! I had no fear for our safety because I knew at that moment that was why God heightened my awareness of that vehicle. Today I lived,
1 Peter 5:8(KJV)
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Satan just knew he was going to destroy us both in that car this morning... BUT GOD! I was quietly listening to God's unction by keeping my eyes on that car and my speed and through that obedience, God spared us. If I had ignored that 'feeling' and just decided to keep up with traffic as people tend to do, we would have met with calamity. I am grateful that I wasn't staggering in my thoughts and distracted or trying to keep up with the crowd. I was tuned in to God and he guided me through the trap and delivered us from being devoured.
Let my morning be encouragement to you... Be sober (keep your thoughts on task listening for God to speak), be vigilant (do what he is saying to do) because your adversary (Satan) has a plan of destruction for you that listening to God will protect you from falling victim to. If you are distracted ask the question, "Am I Drunk?"
