History of River of Life

In 2006, while serving as Senior Pastor of Brotherly Love West Christian Assembly, located at 7348 West Florissant Avenue in Jennings, Mo, the Holy Spirit gave Pastor Willie McMiller a vision to expand the ministry with a focus on community outreach and missions. The vision was to have one central structure to house a multitude of outreach opportunities to impact the surrounding community. In the vision, God gave Pastor the name “River of Life (ROL) Community Outreach Center”.

God promised that the River would change lives everywhere it flowed – healing waters flowing from the hand of God to bless and heal His people. This new entity would be the parent organization for the ROL Food Pantry, Women In Need (U-WIN) program, ROL Youth Department program and the Educational and Cultural Enrichment Program (ECEP).

Pastor McMiller was led to have a focal image for the congregation to see what the Holy Spirit had shown him. He hired an artist to create the painting representing the vision. The painting hung in the lower level of Brotherly Love until 2011 when the Lord led Pastor McMiller and the Board of Directors to purchase property exclusively to house the ROL Community Outreach Center.

On June 25, 2011 a campus with multiple buildings located at 12100 Larimore Rd in Spanish Lake, MO was purchased for this purpose. In addition to the outreach center, the Lord led Pastor McMiller to plant a new church called River of Life Christian Ministries on the same property. River of Life Christian Ministries was birthed on Sunday, November 6, 2011. The church was officially dedicated by Pastor Dewitt Hill, Pastor McMiller’s spiritual father, of Pine Bluff, AR.

It is with great joy and utmost gratefulness being able to see the vision God gave us come to pass. In spite of oppositions and many challenges, God has shown Himself faithful unto us, as we have honored the vision.  This is only the beginning for God is positioning us to do an even greater work in the Kingdom of God to His glory.
